Champlain Valley Fair - Art Gallery Entry System

Rules

  1. The Art Exhibition is open to all artists interested in showing paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs. Each artist is allowed three works, if space allows. In addition, three works per artist may be entered in the special categories.
  2. There will be the following divisions: Fine Art, Photography, Youth, and Special Categories. The Youth Division will be separated into categories based on age. Children ages 8 and under, children 9 to 12, and Teen 13 to 17. Age is determined by date of entry, not when work was completed. Youth photography and Youth 3-D category will include all ages.
  3. All work must be wired and ready for hanging and must include artist’s name, title of work, and category on back. For secure frames that hang flat on the wall, attach screw eyes or hangers to each side of the frame at one-third the height from the top of the frame. Insert framing wire through the hangers and secure the ends. Top of wire must be 2-3 inches below the top of frame (see diagram.)
  4. Correct Hanging
  5. Please do not use desk/table frames (those with the easel back) as these do not hang.
  6. Framing Wire attached to frame with screw eyes or D ring-strap-hangers work well.
  7. All works must have adequate coverings or glass (except for oil and acrylic, or in such instances where glass is impractical).
  8. The staff may refuse work if not properly framed. The Exposition cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage to any work submitted.
Any works requiring rehanging will incur a $2.00 (two dollars) per work fee
Any works requiring hardware kits will charged $1.00 (one dollar) per kit.
Kits will be available to purchase for $1.00 and tools will be available for you to correct your own work.
  9. The following are acceptable: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pencil, charcoal, pen/ink, etc.
Photographs may be in black and white or color. We will not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos, except for those entered in the “Altered Images” or special categories.
Minor adjustments to photos including spotting, dodging and burning, contrast and slight color adjustments or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. Cropped images are also acceptable.
Sculptures and 3-D artwork must have their own pedestal if large or heavy. The superintendent may refuse work that is considered more suitable for the Home Crafts Department.
  10. All work must be the artist’s original and not previously exhibited at the fair. All work, with the exception of sold work, must stay up for the duration of show.
  11. The Art Gallery charges a 25% commission on all items (art and merchandise) sold during the fair.
  12. Size of an entry, in all but 3D category, is limited to a perimeter of 144 inches, inclusive of the frame. To calculate the perimeter, add the length of all four sides together.
  13. Superintendent may re-categorize entries as deemed necessary.
  14. Titles of artwork are limited to a maximum of 25 characters including spaces and punctuation. This is due to the limited space available on the title cards. Lengthy titles will need to be abbreviated.
  15. Please do not use ditto marks or same when filling out entry forms.
    Entry Fees are as follows:
No entry fee for exhibitors whose completed digital entry form is received by Friday before drop off.
    • Pre-registered exhibitors with no changes: No Charge
    • Adult Entries: $2 each entry
(maximum of $5 for entries from one exhibitor)
    • Youth Entries: $1 each entry
(maximum of $2 from one youth exhibitor)

  16. Completed digital entry forms received by the Superintendent by the Friday before drop off weekend will not be charged an entry fee. Artwork will be accepted at the Fairgrounds Art Gallery exhibition space between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm on Sunday, Aug. 18th, and between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm on Monday, Aug. 19th.
  17. Judging will be done privately before the opening of the Fair. At the judges’ discretion, if a lack of competition occurs in any category, the number of prizes will be decreased in that category. Works are judged based on artistic merit, which includes originality, composition, technique, and mastery of the medium. Special categories are also judged by thematic presentation.
  18. The Champlain Valley Exposition’s Art Gallery reserves the right to photographically and electronically document any art work accepted in the exhibition for use in catalogues, publications, publicity materials, or for purposes deemed necessary to CVE operations.
  19. The Champlain Valley Fair reserves the right to disqualify and remove entries deemed to be in poor taste or not family friendly at their sole discretion.
